US Airways voyager avec des animaux domestiques

What is US Airways pet policy?

For an extra charge and under certain conditions, US Airways accepts small domestic cats, dog and birds for transportation in the passenger cabin.

No pets are allowed to travel in the cargo compartment on US Airways or US Airways Shuttle flights.

Do I need to make advance arrangements when traveling with my pet?

Pets in the passenger cabin are permitted based on availability. You cannot book a pet travel online so you should call US Airways Reservation to book your pet travel. Also, when traveling with your pet, you must check-in with an agent at the airport.

For international travel, you must make all arrangements and assume full responsibility for complying with any applicable laws, customs and/or other governmental regulations, restrictions or requirements of the country, state or territory of entry or transit (e.g., entry permits, health and rabies vaccination certificates).

Can I travel with my pet on a codeshare flight?

US Airways does not accept pets on an interline basis. If your itinerary includes a flight with one of US Airways codeshare partners, you should check with that airline for its carry-on pet policies and fees.

Pets in the cabin

Pets are accepted only when accompanied by a passenger traveling on the aircraft and in the same cabin. Only one pet container per passenger is permitted. Passengers who wish to carry on 2 containers in the passenger cabin must purchase an additional seat.

Restrictions

Pets may not be accepted for transportation in the cabin on certain aircraft types due to underseat space constraints.

On aircraft with two-class cabin configuration, a maximum of 6 pets are accepted with no more the 2 pets in First/Business Class. On aircraft with one-class cabin configuration, a maximum of 5 pets are permitted. This restriction does not apply to dogs trained to lead the blind, assist the deaf or detect explosives.

Cabin pets are not allowed on transatlantic flights and flights to/from Antigua, Barbados (Bridgetown), Europe, Jamaica (Montego Bay), South America, St. Lucia, and the Middle East.

On flights to/from Costa Rica, only dogs and cats are allowed.

For travel to/from Hawaii, US Airways allows only service animals in the passenger cabin.

Pet carriers

Pets are accepted only when confined in approved pet carriers. Pet carriers must be stored under the seat directly in front of the passenger. Hence, a passenger traveling with a pet cannot be seated in the first row.

Depending on the pet carrier, operator, or aircraft, the maximum dimensions (length x width x height) may vary as follows:

  • Hard-sided1 pet carriers: 17 in x 16 in x 8 in (43 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm).
  • Soft-sided2 pet carriers: 17 in x 16 in x 10 in (43 cm x 40 cm x 25 cm).
  • On flights operated by US Airways Express: 15 in x 17 in x 8 in (38 cm x 43 cm x 20 cm).
  • On CRJ aircraft: 16 in x 17 in x 8 incl (40 cm x 43 cm x 20 cm).
  • On DH3 and DH8 aircraft: 15 in x 16 in x 10 in (38 cm x 40 cm x 25 cm).

Subject to inspection and approval by US Airways prior to acceptance, pet carriers must be leakproof, ventilated on at least two sides, and large enough for the animal to stand up, turn around and lie down. Two littermates may be carried in the same container if the pet container is large enough.

1Made of wood, metal or hard plastic/composite.
2Acceptable only if made specifically for pet carriage.

Fees

US Airways charges a $ 125 fee each way per container. However, the pet container counts toward your carry-on baggage allowance.

Service Animals

Trained service animals are accepted on all US Airways flights at no additional charge. There is no restriction regarding the number and type of service animals. Your service animal may sit on your lap (an animal no larger than an infant) or in front of your seat (without obstructing the aisle). Special seating (e.g. bulkhead seat) may be arranged at least 24 hours before your flight by calling US Airways Reservations. Passengers traveling with a service animal may not sit in an exit row.

US Airways accepts emotional support or psychiatric service animals in the passenger cabin, provided that you make advance arrangements by calling US Airways Reservations 48 hours before your flight and present all required documentation.
