Qatar Airways flying with babies

Can I travel with my newborn baby on Qatar Airways flights?

Newborn babies at least 8 days old will be accepted on Qatar Airways flights. Newborns younger than 8 days old may only be accepted in special cases when travel is required on medical or compassionate grounds. In this case, you must contact the local Qatar Airways office. On all flights, an adult at least 18 years of age must travel with the infant in the same cabin.

Does Qatar Airways offer any discounts for children?

Discounted fares are offered for infants and children traveling on Qatar Airways flights. Between the ages of 0 and 2 years, children are considered infants. A child is considered to be a passenger aged 2 to 11 years of age. The child’s age at the date of departure for each flight will determine whether or not the child is eligible for discounted a fare:

Age rangeFare type eligibilityFare
8 days – 23 monthsInfant fare if traveling
on a parent’s lap.
Infant fare – generally 10% of the adult fare.
Child fare if traveling in a
child restraint system or car seat.
Child fares are available on select routes and

vary per flight route. Where child fares are

not available, children must travel at the adult fare.

2 – 11 yearsChild fare when accompanied
by an adult over 16 years of age.

Will I be required to purchase a seat for an infant?

An infant (a baby younger than 2 years old) may share the seat with an adult, sitting on the adult’s lap, with the purchase of an infant ticket. However, a child fare ticket will need to be purchased if you are planning to use a child restraint device (CRD) or car seat. The CRD/car seat must occupy a normal passenger seat.

When you are the only adult traveling with two infants, a CRD or a personal car seat (substitute of CRD) must be used for one of the two infants, and the following requirements will apply:

  • A child fare ticket must be purchased for one of the infants.
  • One of the infants must be over 12 months old and be able to sit in a separate seat.

Baggage Allowances

Qatar Airways will accept one collapsible stroller/pushchair or carrycot per infant, without charge, additionally to the free baggage allowance to which each infant is entitled. When you purchase an infant ticket for your baby (no separate seat reserved), your infant will have a free checked baggage allowance. You cannot purchase excess baggage online for your infant, and any additional piece will be charged on the adult ticket.

Child Restraint Devices and Car Seats

A child restraint device is a special seat provided by Qatar Airways in order to accommodate your infant during the flight. This special seat requires the reservation of a seat for your baby because it must be fitted on the normal aircraft seat. Qatar Airways will provide a CRD on a particular flight, without any extra charge, if a passenger makes a request at least 48 hours before the flight departure.

The child restraint device is designed to be used for children with a height up to 40 inches (101.6 cm) and weighing between 20 and 40 lbs (between 9.05 and 18.10 kg), but may also be used for children over 2 years.

Child restraint devices are always provided by Qatar Airways while car seats are brought on board by passengers. Car seats are allowed for infants at least 6 months old and children up to 36 months old. Qatar Airways will accept onboard car seats approved for use in aircraft and/or motor vehicles by authorities such as JAA, the FAA or Transport Canada, or according to certain standards such as UN standard ECE R 44, -03 (or later series of amendments), US FMVSS No 213 (manufactured on or after February 26, 1985) or Canadian CMVSS 213/213.1.

Amenities

Passengers traveling with infants enjoy priority check-in, the option to reserve a bassinet seat, and a special kit, which includes a bottle, baby food jars, diapers and soft toys. Priority boarding is offered to passengers traveling with young children or infants. You must contact the nearest Qatar Airways office to request a bassinet seat. Unfortunately, bassinets are not available onboard the Airbus A380 aircraft in the First Class cabin.

At Hamad International Airport, because personal strollers are no longer delivered at the aircraft’s door once you disembark, Qatar Airways offers baby strollers as a courtesy for families traveling with young children. To ensure strollers cleanliness, disposable covers are provided. In order to make travel connections easier and more comfortable, baby strollers are offered free of charge and can be requested as follows:

  • When you are transferring or arriving at Hamad International Airport, you can find baby strollers at the arrival hall, immediately following their disembarkation of the bus.
  • When you are departing from Hamad International Airport, you can request a baby stroller during check-in.

In order to enjoy the flight, Qatar Airways provides many games, puzzles, and gifts for children, as well as special meals. Baby meals (pre-packaged baby foods) do not need to be requested at booking, but children’s meals (only containing food appropriate for children) should be requested in advance. The lunch box, featuring games and characters from Hasbro, is filled with fresh food, fruit juice, and a sweet treat, and the kids get to keep it and make every meal a fun meal.

Qatar Airways has a limited supply of children’s toys and coloring books. Depending on the length of the flight, kids are offered different activity packs. With creative and educational kits (an activity book filled with puzzles, coloring pages, and fun facts, crayons, and stickers), fun is guaranteed.
