Sporting Equipment

With regard to sporting equipment, there is a free sporting equipment allowance (in addition to the free baggage allowance) which includes the following: golf equipment, ski (snow or water) equipment, snowboard, kiteboard/kite surfer, camping equipment, fishing equipment, scuba diving equipment, and snorkeling equipment. The following rules apply for the free sporting equipment allowance:

  • Only one item of the above per passenger will be transported free of charge, subject to availability of space.
  • The item must not exceed 20 kg (44 lbs).
  • Personal baggage or other sporting equipment cannot be substituted for the free sporting equipment allowance.
  • Items will be accepted only with a signed Limited Release form releasing Air Transat from any claim in regard to damage.

Bicycles with a maximum weight of 32 kg (including bicycle bag/box) can be checked for a $30 CAD/USD / €60 fee (per item per flight segment). A $100 CAD/USD / €80 fee will apply per flight segment when checking a windsurfing board or surfboard not exceeding 32 kg (70 lbs) and 3.65 m (12 feet). Canoes and kayaks are not accepted at check-in counters and can be sent only via Cargo. All other sporting equipment will be included in your regular baggage allowance (if applicable, subject to standard excess baggage fees).

Baggage Service

In the event of delayed or lost baggage, passengers must notify Air Transat airport personnel in writing (through the completion of a Property Irregularity Report) as soon as the failure to deliver checked baggage at the airport of destination is ascertained. If your checked baggage is missing, an agent will complete a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) for you. In the case of damage or partial loss, passengers must complain forthwith after discovery of damage or partial loss and, at the latest, within 7 days from the date of receipt of the baggage. In case of delayed baggage, your complaint must be made no later than 21 days from the date on which the baggage has been returned to you; in case of lost baggage, within 30 days from the date the baggage should have been delivered.
