What is Porter Airlines policy on carry-on allowances?

Your fare determines how much luggage you can bring on board free of charge:

• Basic fare – only one personal article.
• Standard, Flexible and Freedom fares – two items of carry-on baggage, one standard article and one personal article.

However, if another airline operates part of your journey, you should verify the carry-on rules of the other airline as they may differ from Porter Airlines’ rules.

What is Porter Airlines policy on checked baggage?

Only the Freedom fare includes a free baggage allowance of 2 bags up to 23 kg (50 lbs) and 158 cm (62 in) each. With Basic, Standard, and Flexible fares, acceptance of checked baggage, including the first piece, is subject to fees (plus any applicable taxes).

What rules apply in the case of connecting flights?

If the itinerary includes a connection to an airline that has a partnership with Porter Airlines, baggage allowances and fees may differ. The Porter baggage policy applies when the first departure is operated by Porter Airlines, and JetBlue baggage policy applies when the first departure is operated by JetBlue.

For example, on a round trip from Toronto to Las Vegas connecting through Boston (Toronto – Boston segment operated by Porter, and Boston – Las Vegas segment operated by JetBlue) the Porter baggage policy applies to the outbound flights, and the Jetblue Baggage policy applies to the returning flights.

In case of connecting flights, passengers arriving into Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport from a domestic destination will have their baggage transferred from the point of origin all the way through to their final destination, in Canada or the US. When arriving from the US into Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, passengers must claim and clear all bags through Canadian Customs before proceeding to domestic connecting flights.

Carry-on

On Porter Airlines flights, carry-on baggage is limited to two pieces, which must fit in the sizing units (located at check-in and in the gate areas) so that they can be stored under the seat or in the overhead compartment. Therefore, the following restrictions apply for carry-on baggage:

If your carry-on baggage is overweight or oversized, it will be checked at the gate for a fee from $49.50 to $138.

Porter Airlines will not count as carry-on coats, cameras, strollers, child restraint systems, receptacles containing human remains, life sustaining items, canes, crutches, walkers and other such items. A small diaper bag is permitted as an additional carry-on bag for parents traveling with an infant (baby under 2 years of age without paid seat).

Porter Airlines offers its passengers a service, GatePorter Service, which allows them to leave carry-on baggage at the aircraft bridge, prior to boarding, for transfer to the aircraft hold. Carry-on baggage transported in the hold will be returned to the bridge, upon arrival at the destination. GatePorter Service is not for oversized carry-on luggage, and bags must comply with the restrictions for carry-on.

Checked Baggage

When packing your baggage, you should ensure that each piece is clearly marked with your personal information (name, phone number and address). Porter identification tags are available at check-in. No single piece of checked baggage exceeding the following limitations will be accepted:

• 32 kg (70 lbs) in weight.
• 203 cm (80 in) in total dimensions.

A standard bag weighs up to 23 kg (50 lbs) and measures up to 158 cm (62 in), the sum of the length, width and height. Depending on the passenger’s routing and fare class, checked baggage fees may be applicable:

The following rules apply for checked baggage fees:

• Fees are per bag and per direction.
• Fees include local taxes, depending on the origin of ticket.
• Based on originating airport, fees are charged in CAD/USD.
• At the check-in counter and gate, Porter only accepts debit or credit payments.
• For a bag that is both overweight and oversized, Porter Airlines will charge the $77.50 fee only once.
• There is no overweight or oversized bag fee charged for the 3rd and any subsequent bag.
• Strollers and car seats are carried free of charge for children.

Sometimes, in periods of anticipated high baggage volume, excess bags will be placed ‘on hold’ pending space on the aircraft. If the excess baggage does not arrive on the same flight as the passenger, it will be placed on the next available flight. It is your responsibility to return and pick up the baggage from the airport.

Sporting Equipment

On Porter Airlines flights, sporting equipment is subject to standard baggage policies (normal weight and size restrictions apply) and/or baggage and handling fees if applicable. Unless otherwise stated, sporting items count as one piece of baggage, where applicable towards the checked baggage allowance. Porter Airlines will accept the following items as sporting equipment on its aircraft:

• Sports rackets – may be carried in the passenger cabin.
• Golf bags – golf clubs, balls and shoes, suitably packed, may be checked as a single piece of baggage.
• Fishing equipment – rod and tackle count as a single piece of checked baggage.
• Skis and snowboards – exempt from oversized bag fee only, may be checked as a single piece of baggage.
• Hockey equipment – exempt from oversized bag fee only, two hockey sticks and one bag of equipment count as a single piece of checked baggage.
• Bicycles – suitably packed, are counted as one piece of checked baggage. In addition to any applicable baggage fees, a $50 handling fee will be charged per bicycle per direction.
• Firearms and ammunition – in addition to any applicable baggage fees, a $50 handling fee will be charged per case per direction. Ammunition must be declared when checking in. Up to 5 kg of ammunition, securely packed, may be carried in checked baggage.

Baggage Service

Delayed baggage and damaged baggage must be reported in writing either at the airport, within 4 hours of arrival, or online, within 7 days of arrival. If your baggage has not been returned to you after 24 hours, Porter Airlines will reimburse you any baggage fees. A claim for damaged baggage may be settled with a replacement bag (if the bag is no longer useable), repair or travel voucher.
