Cathay Dragon check-in

How can I check in for a Cathay Dragon flight?

For Cathay Dragon flights, passengers are offered a few self-check-in options as alternatives to the classic check-in at the airport counter:

  • Online Check-in.
  • Mobile Check-in.
  • In-Town Check-in.
  • Kiosk Check-in.

What are the check-in and boarding deadlines for Cathay Dragon flights?

For Online, Mobile and In-Town Check-in, the deadline is 90 minutes before departure. Kiosk Check-in is available up until 50 minutes before departure. When you use one of these options to check in, you must drop your bags at least 50 minutes before scheduled departure time at the Self Check-In Bag Drop Counter.

At the airport, check-in counters usually close 40 minutes before departure, but exceptions may apply at some airports.

Cathay Dragon requires passengers to present themselves with their boarding pass at the Boarding Gate Service Desk no later than 30 minutes before departure.

Online Check-in

Passengers can use Online Check-in between 48 hours and 90 minutes before departure time for the following flights:

  • All Cathay Dragon flights (KA), including codeshare flights operated by Cathay Pacific.
  • All Cathay Pacific flights (CX), including codeshare flights operated by Cathay Dragon.

Passengers must hold e-Tickets issued by Cathay Dragon or Cathay Pacific Airways to use Online Check-in. However, Online Check-in is not available when:

  • The passenger requires medical assistance.
  • The Unaccompanied Minor service is booked for a child.
  • Passengers are registered as a group in the booking.
  • Additional payment for the ticket is required.
  • An extra seat was purchased.

You can check in for up to 8 flights. You must check in for flights one by one, in the same sequence of your itinerary. For connecting flights with other airlines, you may check in where possible and as long as the first sector is operated by Cathay Dragon or Cathay Pacific. Partner airlines for Through Check-in service include Cathay Pacific Airways, Air China, Air France, China Southern Airlines, China Airlines, Eva Air, Japan Airlines, Lufthansa, Qantas Airways, Singapore Airlines, Scandinavian Airlines and Swiss International Airlines.

With Online Check-In, you can:

  • Select/change a seat for yourself and your companions.
  • Add/update your Frequent Flyer Number.
  • Obtain your boarding pass:
    • Self-Print Boarding Pass (only within 24 hours before departure when traveling to/from the US). This option is available when departing from select airports, including when transiting in Hong Kong (passengers with onward connecting flights departing from other airports than Hong Kong will not be able to print the boarding pass).
    • Mobile Boarding Pass, available from select airports.

The boarding pass can also be obtained at the airport:

  • Print your boarding yourself at a Self Check-in kiosk, where available.
  • Collect the boarding pass and drop your bags by presenting the check-in confirmation page at a designated Self-Check-in Bag Drop Counter. Passengers traveling with children or infants may be required to present in person at the counter before the boarding pass can be issued.

Mobile Check-in

Adding the convenience of being accessible anywhere and anytime, Mobile Check-in offers exactly the same benefits as Online Check-in. Without requiring any application download, Mobile Check-in is accessible on all web-enabled mobile phones. The same restrictions and exceptions as for Online Check-in apply also for Mobile Check-in. Where available, you can receive a Mobile Boarding Pass, but the Mobile Check-in Confirmation does not serve as Mobile Boarding Pass.

Mobile Boarding Pass

All passengers who are checking in for Cathay Dragon and Cathay Pacific flights departing from available airports can request a Mobile Boarding Pass except when:

  • The passenger purchased a ticket with fare applicable for infant.
  • The Unaccompanied Minor service is booked for a child.
  • The air ticket was purchased in conjunction with a ferry ticket.
  • The onward connecting flight departs from airports other than Hong Kong.
  • The passenger has a return flight the same day or within 24 hours.

Mobile Boarding Pass is available for flights departing only from select airports. Passengers traveling to/from the US can only issue Mobile Boarding Pass within 24 hours prior to the flight departure. The SMS/email is not a Mobile Boarding Pass. In order to confirm your traveling, you must immediately click the hyperlink. Cathay Dragon offers the option of storing your Mobile Boarding Pass in Passbook. If you access the link after the airport check-in counters are closed, especially when you are coming late at the airport, you will be treated as a no-show passenger.

Kiosk Check-in
