Does Air North, Yukon’s Airline offer Unaccompanied Minor Service?

Yes, Air North, Yukon’s Airline offers the Unaccompanied Minor Service for children traveling without the supervision of a parent or guardian. There is no additional fee for the Unaccompanied Minor Service, but Air North, Yukon’s Airline will charge the standard adult fare at the time of booking.

What is the required age for a child to qualify as an Unaccompanied Minor?

Children aged between 5 and 11 (inclusive) may only fly with the Unaccompanied Minor Service provided by Air North, Yukon’s Airline.

Children under the age of 5 may not fly as Unaccompanied Minors. If requested, young travelers who are 12 years of age or older may fly as Unaccompanied Minors at the request of their guardian. In this case, all travel restrictions applicable to the Unaccompanied Minor Service will apply.

Unaccompanied Minor Service

To make a reservation for an Unaccompanied Minor, you must contact by phone Air North’s reservations team. To ensure that all information is provided, it is important that you check in your child at least 90 minutes prior to departure. When checking in, you must fill out a form with the required information, including your name, telephone number, and address, and that of the guardian at the point of arrival.

After check-in, you must accompany your child to the gate and remain with him/her until the child is escorted on board the aircraft by Air North personnel. At the gate, Unaccompanied Minors will be boarded ahead of other passengers. You are required to remain at the departure airport up to 15 minutes after the flight has departed.

Air North provides in-flight service, including a complimentary soft drink and, based on the route, a light snack or meal, but it may be worthwhile to pack a special snack for your child and provide some type of entertainment (reading material, a portable device, etc.).

Upon arrival, Unaccompanied Minors are the last to disembark. Your child will be brought to the Air North arrivals area to meet the person who is picking him/her up and who must show a photo ID matching the information provided at check-in. If your child is traveling as an Unaccompanied Minor and connects from Air North to another airline, you must make arrangements for your child to be met at the gate at the arrival city of the Air North flight by a designated family member or friend who will assume responsibility for ensuring your child picks up his/her baggage and checks in for the next flight.
