What is Thomas Cook Airlines UK policy on hand baggage?

On all Thomas Cook Airlines UK flights, all passengers (except infants) receive a complimentary hand baggage allowance:

*Because infants are not entitled to bring their own cabin baggage, any infant items or baby food must be carried within the general hand baggage allowance.

At some UK airports, a charge of £65 per bag will apply for a gate bag if you arrive at the boarding gate with more than one item of hand baggage (excluding airport shopping).

If your Thomas Cook Airlines UK flight was booked as part of a package holiday, than your free baggage allowance, which can vary between 15 kg and 30 kg, is shown on your holiday documents.

When traveling on a flight-only booked through Thomas Cook Airlines UK, the following free baggage allowance are offered:

The dimensions of each baggage item must not exceed 158 cm (length+width+height).

Zone 2 – Canary Islands, Cyprus, Greece, Turkey, Cape Verde, Egypt, Gambia.

For safety and occupational health reasons, any one piece of baggage must not exceed 32 kg in weight.

Baggage allowances can be added to flight bookings online or by calling the Customer Contact Centre:

  • 30 days or more before departure – Early Bird prices.
  • From 29 days up to 8 hours before departure – regular prices.
  • Weight System – maximum 40 kg of hold baggage.
  • Piece System – maximum 2 additional bags at 23 kg each.

Sporting Equipment

Sporting equipment must be registered in advance, no later than 8 hours before departure, online or by calling the Customer Help Desk. Transportation of unregistered sporting equipment cannot be guaranteed. The following categories apply to sporting equipment on flights operated by Thomas Cook Airlines UK:

  • Group A:
    • Fishing, golf, paraglider, scuba diving, sporting firearms, ski, water ski.
    • Maximum weight and dimensions – 20 kg and 200 x 40 x 80 cm (L x W x H).
  • Group B:
    • Bicycle – max. weight 30 kg, max. dimensions 200 x 40 x 100 cm (L x W x H).
    • Surfboard, kiteboard, bodyboard, boogie board, canoe, kayak, inflatable rubber dinghy, hang glider – max. weight 30 kg, max. dimensions 300 x 60 x 50 cm (L x W x H).
  • Other sporting equipment:
    • Tennis equipment, skating gear, archery bow, riding equipment, mountaineering equipment, etc.
    • Transported as part of the free baggage allowance, and, if exceeded, regular excess baggage charges apply.

If the itinerary includes feeder or connecting flights operated by other airlines, an extra handling fee of £50  will be charged at the airport in addition to the sporting equipment charge.

Baggage Services

In the unfortunate event that your luggage does not arrive at your destination, or you discover that your baggage or its contents has been damaged, you need to inform a Thomas Cook Airlines UK handling agent before leaving the terminal building so that the staff can complete a Property Irregularity Report (PIR). To cover for emergency supplies, Thomas Cook Airlines UK will refund any reasonable out of pocket expenses.
